Learn to Play Guitar with Brett Vachon

FAQ

What will I be learning?

You will:

  • Learn how to properly hold the instrument and the pick
  • Learn how to read standard notation and guitar tablature
  • Be able to quickly learn new songs
  • Learn how to easily play chords and change from one chord to another
  • Be a more confident player
  • Have lots of fun!

Should I have my own instrument?

If you do not already possess a guitar, there is a classical and an electric guitar available at the studio for your use during the guitar lesson. However I strongly recommend having your own instrument and bringing it to the guitar class. Having your own instrument is very important, as this allows you to practice at home and improve more quickly. If you do not already possess a guitar, I can make recommendations on the type of guitar that you need for your lessons. I recommend a 3/4 size instrument for children 9 and under, and a full-size instrument for those aged 10 and up.

Is there a book that I can buy?

It is important for first time guitar players to have a guitar method in order for the student to have a reference for reading notes. I recommend starting with the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1, available at any music store or online.

Do you teach pop music?

I teach all styles of music including pop, flamenco, fingerstyle, classical, and electric guitar. I am happy to help you in whatever style you choose.
